| Originally my cloth paintings were an homage to the historical traditions of painting, but as my painting has evolved, so has the significance of why I paint these cloths. Like the interior spaces the cloth evokes many meanings, historically, emotionally and psychologically. As a painter and student of human nature, I find the cloth to be a wonderful metaphor for our collective humanness. The cloth protects us from the elements, covers what we do not want seen and offers security when we are scared. The cloth is our shield the outer most layer of skin, it lives as part of us, it is inanimate yet it moves, it breaths yet it has no breath, it sings but without a voice. The cloth is human, it is all of us, the good, the bad, the brave and the scared it lives as we live, and dies when we die... | |||||||||||||||||||||||
